BiteSized@NFTS: Funding Your Feature Documentary

Short course

Submit your application and as soon as we've received sufficient interest we’ll schedule dates

This BiteSized session will bring you up to date with what streamers want, how they want them and how you can achieve that

Over the two hours we will look at:

  • The pros and cons of streamer commission versus streamer acquisition and how this is different to traditional broadcasters
  • Which festivals the streamers attend and how to create a bidding war with your film
  • The routes to finance without a commission and how important sales agents are in that process
  • How to make sure you have a unique ‘angle’ or ‘hook’ for your story so that you can compete alongside seasoned documentary makers

By the end of the session, you will have a clear idea of the different funding routes, what financiers/broadcasters/streamers expect for their money and how to raise the quality level of your ideas to compete in the marketplace.

There will be time for Q & A’s as we go along as well as time to look at your own projects and where the opportunities are to get them funded.

Course Tutor, Kim Leggatt has spent the last five years making feature documentaries and is currently embarking on a 3-part docuseries for the streamers. Prior to that she spent 15 years producing feature films.  She has watched how the trend in feature docs and docuseries has monumentally shifted over the last few years as the competitive nature of the marketplace requires ideas to be more highly polished than ever before.
