There are an incredible 15 nominations for NFTS alumni at this year’s British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) including three nominations for NFTS Cinematography MA alumna, Lynne Ramsay and five nominations for NFTS Directing Fiction MA alumnus, Michael Pearce!

You Were Never Really Here directed and written by Lynne Ramsay and Beast directed and written by Michael Pearce are up for ‘Best British Independent Film’. Lynne and Michael are also nominated for ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Director’. Michael is additionally nominated for The Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director and Best Debut Screenwriter.

NFTS Cinematography MA alumnus, Tom Townend is nominated for ‘Best Cinematography’ and NFTS Sound Post Production alumnus, Paul Davies is nominated for ‘Best Sound’ for You Were Never Really Here.

Nick Fenton is up for ‘Best Editing’ for American Animals alongside Julian Hart and Chris Gill.

And last but not least, four out of the five short films nominated credit NFTS graduates including:

The Big Day, produced by NFTS Producing MA graduate, Michelle Stein (directed by Dawn Shadforth and written by Kellie Smith)

The Field, directed by NFTS Directing Documentary MA graduate, Sandhya Suri.

Pommel, co-produced by NFTS Creative Business for Entrepreneurs and Executives graduate, Ivan Kelava (Written & Directed by Paris Zarcilla, co-produced by Sebastian Brown.)

To Know Him, co-produced by NFTS Producing MA graduate, Michelle Stein (directed by Ted Evans, written by Kellie Smith, co-produced by Jennifer Monks)

The winners will be announced at the BIFA ceremony on the 2nd December at Old Billingsgate Market in London.
