The Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, the National Film and Television School (NFTS) and Porsche AG are back in search of young and creative filmmakers. Once again this year the three partners are offering international advertising film talents a platform on which to present themselves and their work in the highly competitive advertising film market.
Students and young professionals with less than three years of experience still have until 16 July 2018 to submit their films in one of two categories.
The Classical Category/Other Formats is for classical advertising films not related to cars or mobility up to a maximum of 90 seconds, as well as all other advertising formats including campaigns, branded entertainment, mobile productions and trailers up to 3 minutes in length.
In addition to traditional car advertisements, all films relating to the mobility of the future are now accepted in the Mobility Category, which has been expanded and developed in view of the transformation in the car industry. For example, this could include spots for e-bikes, electric mopeds and car-sharing models, as well as mobility apps. Advertising spots may be up to 90 seconds in length (classical format for TV, cinema or internet), or up to a maximum of 3 minutes for films, e.g. branded short, internet version, integrated campaign, etc.).
Three prizes are awarded in the Mobility Category and three in the Classical Category/Other Formats. In celebration of the iconic Porsche 911 sports car, the 1st prize in each category comes with a financial award of €3,911, the 2nd prize with €2,911 and the 3rd prize with €1,911. In addition to that, all winning films will appear on the website or DVD of the renowned advertising magazine shots.
A jury of prominent representatives of the international advertising film industry will assess all the submissions in time-honoured fashion, and draw up a shortlist of the ten best films. These ten shortlist nominees will be invited to the award ceremony in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart/Zuffenhausen on 20 November 2018. In this '70 years of Porsche sports cars' anniversary year, the event will be held in the unique atmosphere of the museum at Porsche headquarters – a very special moment bearing in mind that the Porsche International Student Advertising Film Award is also celebrating a small anniversary with this 15th edition.
As in previous years, a colourful audience is again expected for the 15th awards ceremony, including representatives of the international advertising and film industries. The event offers young advertising filmmakers a platform on which to present themselves and their exceptional work, and to establish those all-important first contacts with the established greats of the advertising industry.
The Filmakademie has hosted the Porsche International Student Advertising Film Award since it was first held in 2004. Since 2016, the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg and the National Film and Television School (NFTS) have been working together on the direction of the advertising film competition – and always in close cooperation and coordination with Porsche AG, which has been the main sponsor since the very beginning. The car manufacturer after which the award is called presents the winners with financial prizes, as well as a trophy designed exclusively for the Porsche Award. The City of Ludwigsburg has also been supporting the competition since the start.
The Porsche Award is a non-profit event. Neither the organisers nor the sponsors derive any financial or commercial benefits. The aim is to promote young talents in a way that helps them to independently make the step towards becoming professional and successful filmmakers. The international reach of this attractive competition for young advertising film talent has been extended further since the NFTS joined as a partner, with a notable surge of international submissions competing for the prestigious awards over the last two years.
