BAFTA Nomination and Golden Reel Award for NFTS Student Films

First a Best Short Animation BAFTA nomination for Afarin Eghbal’s graduation film Abuelas to add to its tally of nearly twenty awards. Abuelas is an innovative and powerful documentary animation set in Buenos Aires.

The following week saw Jay Price win the Verna Fields Award for Best Sound Editing at the prestigious Golden Reel Awards in Los Angeles. The second year in succession an NFTS student film has won this award and a remarkable tenth award for the NFTS at the Golden Reels. Jay received his award for his work on the 2011 graduation film The Pride of Wade Ellison, a period Western directed by Sean Branigan and produced by Ali Rumani.

Just two of the award-winning NFTS graduation films from 2011. One of 2012’s graduation films, The Betrayal, has already won Best Student Documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam.

All this year’s films and TV programmes will be screening at the NFTS Graduation Show, BFI Southbank on Wednesday 29th February, Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd March.
