Current Cinematography student, Jonathan Flint, has come up with the winning concept to make a short film for NFTS Key Partner Sponsor, the UK Cinema Association (UKCA) as part of the School’s Bridge to Industry scheme. NFTS students and recent graduates were tasked with pitching ideas to make a short film to support the UKCA’s #MyCinema initiative, which will be shown in cinemas in Autumn 2017.
Jonathan’s short film, which he will shoot and direct, will be produced by Kieran Nolan Jones, and celebrates the excitement of going to the cinema.
Jonathan says: "Thrilled to have my idea chosen by the UKCA. A key facet of the Cinematography course at the NFTS is to create images intended for the big screen, so the prospect of seeing the finished product in cinemas is very exciting!"

The UK Cinema Association is the national trade body for cinemas and represents well over 90 per cent of UK cinema operators. Later this year UKCA are launching a #MyCinema campaign, to celebrate the unparalleled cultural, social and economic contribution that cinema makes. The objective for the film is to engender positive appreciation for the UK cinema industry by offering audiences engaging personal perspectives on the contribution cinema makes to the UK.
UK Cinema Association Policy Executive, Grainne Peat says: “We are delighted to be once again be working with the NFTS on our new campaign which will celebrate the community contribution of UK cinemas. Given our wish for the best possible range of ideas, it made sense involve the unique talent at the School. The calibre of potential treatments submitted for the #mycinema campaign by students and graduates was incredibly high, leaving us with a tough decision to make. That said, we are very much looking forward to seeing and sharing Jonathan's finished piece with the sector and are confident that he will bring to life the many facets of cinema-going which make it such a magical shared experience.”
This is the second project the UKCA has commissioned NFTS students and graduates to make following a short film that was screened in conjunction with a special preview of Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children to raise funds for the School. The UKCA is the official course partner for the NFTS Marketing, Sales, Distribution and Exhibition MA and provides two scholarships for students on this course. Applications are open for the MA, which starts in January, until the 7th September 2017.
