Almost There, an animation stop-motion graduation film directed by NFTS Directing Animation MA graduate Nelly Michenaud and produced by NFTS Producing MA graduates Kate Phibbs and Nathanael Baring will have its World Premiere at the Oscar qualifying ‘World Festival of Animated Film in Zagreb’, in Croatia.

Synopsis: On an everyday train quite unlike any other, a group of absurdly troubled characters’ encounter each other on a bizarre journey, as their problems escalate from the relatively benign to the downright absurd. A not-so-casual observer goes to extreme lengths to avoid other passengers, a giant baby runs away from his parents, a romantic woman starts an ill-fated relationship with a cuckoo, and a naïve boy discovers that some problems can’t be fixed by pictures of unicorns.

Graduate Nelly told us: "It's all terribly exciting! I am really looking forward to going to the festival and soaking it all up. I want to warmly thank the festival for the opportunity and recognition of the teams' very hard work."

More than 1800 films from 86 countries were submitted to the festival and the student category has 47 films screening in it this year.

The festival, known as ‘Animafest Zagreb’, is a film festival entirely dedicated to animated film held annually in Zagreb, Croatia and is one of Europe’s oldest and longest running animation festivals, promoting upcoming filmmakers and showcasing animation in all its different forms – from traditional drawings, to stop motion, CGI, to experimental cross-media films.
