It’s been a successful start to the week at the NFTS! Two 2019 graduation films; November 1st and Azaar, made the BAFTA shortlist in the British Short Film category. In addition, Myf Hopkins, an NFTS Producing MA graduate and visiting tutor at the School, made the shortlist for the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category for her role as Producer on The Last Tree which was written and directed by NFTS graduate Shola Amoo.

November 1st sees a mother and daughter travel across state to witness a long-overdue execution and was directed by NFTS Directing Fiction MA graduate Charlie Manton and produced by NFTS Producing graduate Teodora Shalev. The film has already collected a Bronze award at the 2019 Student Oscars.

Azaar was directed by NFTS Directing Fiction MA graduate Myriam Raja and produced by NFTS Producing MA graduate Nathanael Baring. A coming of age story set amongst a small mountainous tribe of women in 19th century South Asia, Azaar tells the story of a spirited young girl who yearns to wear a veil and become a woman, despite the costs this may entail.

Our congratulations go to all involved! The full BAFTA nominations will be announced on January 7th 2020 with the ceremony taking place on February 2, 2020.
