This practical, how-to course combines case studies, methodologies and insights with advice for your live projects career aspirations, all delivered by experienced experts working in the industry right now.  They’ll give you all the best tools and techniques to connect your content with audiences, and give your advice and guidance specific to your projects or career aspirations.  

You can attend individual 2 day modules, or complete all 10 days (2 days a month) to cover everything you need to take a film to market, and receive the NFTS Certificate qualification in Film Marketing and Distribution.

This course is the best launch pad for both a successful film release and a career in this challenging industry. 

The course is aimed at candidates currently working on film projects or looking to get into film marketing as a career, and filmmakers looking to distribute and market their own films or broaden their understanding in these areas.

The course is delivered by Deborah Rowland, NFTS Head of Marketing, Distribution, Sales and Exhibition, with lead tutors from the MA course.

2.  The Power of Publicity –  10th & 11th August 2019

How to use publicity, events and festivals effectively to launch and promote your film

3.  Harnessing the Networks – 21st & 22nd September 2019

How to plan and implement successful social media and grass roots marketing campaigns for your film

4.  The Heart of a Campaign – 2nd & 3rd November 2019

Factors to consider in creating the most powerful elements of any film campaign – the poster and trailer

5.  Genre-Specifics – 14th & 15th December 2019 

The challenges and opportunities of releasing and marketing docs, animation, horror, sci-fi and comedy films

Fees and funding options

Fees for this course are as follows:

£1650 for ten days / £370 per module
You may opt to attend any or all of the five modules.


Bursaries, supported by the Scottish Government, are also available for those who are eligible.

If you wish to apply for a bursary to contribute to the costs of your course, please read the bursary guidelines below carefully to confirm your eligibility. Please do not apply to a course unless you are sure you meet the bursary eligibility criteria or are able to pay for the course. 

Once you have submitted your application, bursary applications should be submitted, along with a diversity monitoring form, to scotland@nfts.co.uk.

Please apply for your bursary no later than two weeks before the start of the course, or in the case, that you are applying for a module, two weeks before the module starts.

Entry requirements

There are no experience or qualification restrictions for this course.

Candidates might be marketing a film project or looking for marketing, publicity, social media roles within the film industry.

Filmmakers looking to release and market their own projects or broaden their understanding of these areas will find this course extremely valuable.
