3 NFTS films selected for Encounters

The UK’s leading short film and animation festival

We are extremely proud to announce that three student graduation films have been selected for the Oscar qualifying Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival, which takes place between the 19th and 24th September 2017 in Bristol. Only 247 films were selected from the 3000 that were submitted from around the world.

Selected films include:

Fiction, Wild Horses - directed and written by Rory Alexander Stewart and produced by Rebecca Smith

Synopsis: Wild Horses is a story about a girl with ME negotiating her suffocating relationship with her distracted yet interfering mother. Joan will have to rebel to break their co-dependency, if only she can work up the energy.

Animation, Don’t Think of a Pink Elephant – directed, written and animated by Suraya Raja and produced by Rebecca Smith

Synopsis: Pink Elephant enters the world of a girl who has to fight against compulsions brought on by anxiety. Layla is terrified by her potential to do harm, until she is challenged to find that she can trust herself.

Animation, Homegrown is directed and animated by Quentin Haberham, written by Tim Fraser and produced by Caroline Bartleet

Synopsis: Francis raises his son, Kip, in isolation. But when the boy outgrows his father’s protective confines, Francis learns that what is right for himself may not be best for his son.
