Two Nominations for NFTS Alumni at RTS Scotland TV Awards

NFTS alumni Maja Zamojda and Stephen Bennett have scooped nominations at The Royal Television Society (RTS) Scotland TV Awards, which takes place on Wednesday 9th May 2018 presented by Jennifer Reoch and Des Clarke. The Awards covers all forms of production in Scotland, recognising and celebrating excellence and innovation across a wide range of genres and crafts. 

NFTS Cinematography MA alumna Maja Zamojda is nominated in the ‘Professional Excellence: Camera’ category for her work as a Director of Photography on BBC3’s psychological thriller Clique. Filmed in Edinburgh, the series explores the power of friendship, threatened by the ambition of three women. Clique credits a further four NFTS alumni (see below)

Directing Documentary MA graduate Stephen Bennett is nominated in the ‘Documentary and Specialist Factual: History’ category is for his work on Brian Cox’s Russia, the BBC documentary following Hollywood actor Brian Cox’s travels to Russia to discover stories of Scottish heritage.

In addition, a further eight NFTS alumni are credited in programmes nominated in the ‘Best Drama’ and ‘Best Comedy’ categories.

NFTS Credits in programmes nominated for awards include:

Queers – The Man on the Platform; the eight-part series written in response to the 50th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act, is nominated for ‘Best Drama’ (DoP, Suzie Lavelle; Sound Recordist, Kieron Wolfson)

BBC3 Drama Clique is nominated for ‘Best Drama’ (Directors, Rob McKillop & Andrew Harkin; DoP Maja Zamojda; Editors Carmela Iandoli & Hazel Baillie) 

Scottish sitcom Two Doors Down is nominated for ‘Best Comedy’ (DoP, Sarah Bartles-Smith)

Lisa Hazlehurst, Head of Lion Television and Chair of Judges for the RTS Scotland Awards 2018 says: ‘The range and breadth of entries for this year’s awards was truly impressive and reflective of Scotland’s vibrant production community. The judges had a tough time deciding eventual winners from an impressive number of entries; which should mean a fun and exciting awards night at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket’
