Delivered in the NFTS Scotland Virtual Classroom, accessed via Zoom, in partnership with NFTS Leeds and NFTS Scotland Having directed film and television for over thirty years, Jonas will explain, simplify and de-mystify the abstract elements of filmmaking - and share a string of his secrets. This course is suitable for anyone who wants to get involved in filmmaking in any function at any level - including actors This course covers: Jonas Grimas is an award winning Swedish writer and director based in London. He won a FAFTA for his short film ‘Artisten’, and was nominated for the same award for ‘Marooned’ - a film set in Glasgow. He has directed around 100 hours of prime-time drama and documentaries, including Silent Witness, Hamish Macbeth, Wallander, Hope and Glory and Heartbeat to name but a few. He is currently combining his filmmaking with teaching at the London Film School and mentoring at various other schools around the UK and Europe. He has delivered this course in five countries since 2016.
- What a director is actually there to do (you’ll be surprised!)
- How to approach the script and how to fix it if it doesn’t work
- How to cast actors
- How to work out a visual style and give you the tools to work out a one-shot solution for any scene
- How to direct actors and make them give you their best performance by doing virtually nothing
