Aimed at those with experience in music composition and creation who are interested in composing specifically for film and TV, this practical and interactive two day course gives participants the opportunity to write and showcase short scores for contemporary film and media content and receive expert feedback in a peer learning environment.
Participants are expected to have some prior knowledge of how to use music software themselves for composition and sound design (this can be anything ranging from Garage Band to ProTools) as the focus of the course will be on the craft of creating music and sound to enhance emotional storytelling. Participants will be asked to view a short film (max. 3 mins) and upload their score prior to the first day of the course.
On the morning of the first day of the course, scores will be reviewed and critiqued as a group and a further scoring challenge will be set which will be reviewed again on the second day of the course.
Across both course days, the afternoon classroom training sessions will cover:
- The power of music in moving picture
- The art and craft of composing to picture
- An introduction to the business of film and TV music
This course is led by Giles Lamb, a highly experienced UK based composer with a long list of credits spanning 18 years writing music for TV, Films, commercials and trailers. He also studied Neuroscience and Music Psychology in the 90’s before establishing his career as a soundtrack composer, He has released 8 commercial albums and has also collaborated on numerous theatre music and interactive media projects.
