NFTS Scotland: Location Sound Recording (and 1-day Cable Making Workshop)

Overview

This five day course (with an additional optional cable-making workshop day) is aimed at industry professionals who want a better understanding of film sound recording. This course will provide the background knowledge, theory and practical skills required to achieve broadcast quality sound for film and television.

  • Recording sound on location
  • Working methods for drama and documentary shooting
  • Microphones - use, tips & techniques
  • Location Mixers
  • Digital video cameras and recorders
  • An overview of non-linear and multi-track recording
  • Timecode
  • Stereo
  • First line maintenance

Practical exercises include recording on a documentary and a drama location.

By the end of the course you will be fully equipped with the knowledge of what is technically and creatively required to record sound for film and television.


 

Fees and funding options

Fees for this course are as follows:

Freelance Rate: £825
Corporate Rate: £1500

Cable-Making Workshop Freelance Rate: £215 
Cable-Making Workshop Corporate Rate: £330

Please note that the workshop rate also covers the cost of materials.

The NFTS Scotland bursary fund is currently closed for this course and we encourage you to seek alternative avenues of funding to support the cost of this course if required.
