NFTS students are regularly nominated for the Oscars, BAFTAs and the Royal Television Society Awards. In this year, NFTS films have had an Oscar nomination, 2 BAFTA nominations, 18 RTS nominations, a Grierson nomination and a win at the International Documentary Awards. 

...Our students have won the BAFTA for Best Animated Short Film (for the 4th year in succession!), secured an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film (our 3rd Oscar nomination in recent years), won 4 RTS Awards and had a film shortlisted for the Student Academy Awards. The CILECT Prize for Best Films from Film Schools across the world, resulted in 2 NFTS wins and a second prize in the 3 categories – as voted for by all of the other international film schools!

NFTS films have also won prizes at Annecy (2 awards for the same film), Aspen, Toronto Hot Docs, Sheffield Docfest, Dinard and at Encounters. Our films have screened across the world with selections at all of the major film festivals of the world, including Cannes, Sundance, the American Film Institute, New York Television Festival, Chicago, Palm Springs, Melbourne, Clermont-Ferrand and Edinburgh.

NFTS student films are regularly selected for all of the major film festivals in the world. These are only some of the festivals that have screened our films - Cannes International Film Festival, Semaine de la Critique, Berlin, Venice, Sundance, Telluride, Locarno, Rotterdam, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Sebastián , Montreal, Dinard, Sarajevo, Toronto, Palm Springs, San Francisco, Aspen, Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Stuttgart International Animated Film Festival , Ottawa International Animation Film Festival, Hiroshima, Zagreb World Festival of Animated Film, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival, Edinburgh, London, Camerimage and Clermont-Ferrand.

On top of our 2013 Oscar nomination for animation Head over HeelsThe graduation fiction film, The Confession was nominated for Best Short Film for the Oscars in 2011 and was the winner of the 2010 Student Academy Awards. In the last four years our graduation films have been nominated for 3 BAFTAs and won Twice, Until The River Runs Red (2011) and Sleeping With The Fishes (2014).

The Golden Reel for Best Sound Editing has been won twelve times by our students - the result in 2014 was another win for the NFTS and we also received 6 nominations in this competition run by the Motion Picture Sound Editors, in Los Angeles. There were 8 films nominated in this year’s Royal Television Society Awards with NFTS films winning in all four categories (Best Fiction, Best Animation, Best Entertainment, Best Factual). Other highlights include our 70th win for Abuelas on the Film Festival Circuit; 3 nominations from the Grierson Documentary Awards and a win for Sodiq and NFTS graduation film Beach Boy winning at the Karlovy Vary Festival. NFTS films and programmes can also be seen on television including broadcasts on the BBC, Sky and Channel 5 and across Europe, broadcast by ARTE & Canal Plus.
