Welcome to Channel 4 and the National Film and Television School's booking page for an exciting week of online sessions that are all free and open to anyone to join. The theme of the week is Script to Screen. These exciting sessions will offer unique insights from a wide range of film & television experts, who will share their expertise and discuss the opportunities & challenges of bringing a script to screen.

Comedy Writing: The Mask Slips - with Hannah Robinson: Monday 8th July | 14:00 - 15:30

Screenwriter & director, Hannah Robinson, will discuss the theory of the Comedy Mask and the techniques with which to make your comedy scripts work harder. There will be the chance, at the end of the session, to ask Hannah questions.

How To Manage Your First Commission: With Frances Poletti: Tuesday 9th July 2024 | 10:00 - 11:30

In this session Frances will take us through a study of getting her first TV Drama, Without Sin (starring Vicky McClure) from script to screen. How she sold her ideas in the writers room, how to work with the execs, what is the commissioning process, including the challenges and how it has all shaped her career and writing now.

The Casting Director: Realising The Writers Vision - with Nicci Topping: Tuesday 9th July 2024 | 14:00 - 15:30

Writing is only the first step, getting the right actors to play the characters you’ve envisioned is imperative to the success of the project. How do you as the writer work with the casting director? Nicci Topping will talk us through the while process. An invaluable insight into what you can do to make it work. Nicci has cast for an impressive list of talent, including all the major broadcasters, streamers and major production companies.

We bring together three writers at different stages of their careers to talk about the pathways they are taking - Harriet Ghost (www.harrietghost.com), Mohsen Shah (www.mohsenshah.com) and Lisa Holdsworth (www.haworthagency.co.uk/lisa-holdsworth). Channel 4: New Writing North: Pitching & Development: Thursday 11July 2024 | 13:00 - 14:00

Join New Writing North for a session about Pitching and Development. Producer Hannah Rose and writer Adam Bennett-Lea will be in discussion with Will Mackie who leads on Talent Development at New Writing North. We will talk about what commissioners are looking for, offer advice on strategies for pitching to development teams and consider how different processes can work for writers. There will be time set aside for audience questions.
