Channel 4 East of England Open Day in partnership with National Film and Television School and Norfolk Screen

Channel 4 has partnered with the National Film and Television School (NFTS) and Norfolk Screen to offer a series of free online virtual sessions aimed at people in the east of England.

The Channel 4 Open Day, set up in conjunction with the broadcaster’s 4Skills* training and development team, will be held on March 21 and is now open to applications from people based in the east of England.

The sessions, all devised by the NFTS, will feature industry insiders who will be able to offer a wide range of advice on various aspects of working in the TV industry.

Channel 4 Partnership and Skills Manager Charlotte Michael said: “Channel 4 is committed to opening up the creative industries to people across the UK and this Open Day will be offering people in the east of England practical advice on careers in the television industry.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to hear from those who know the industry inside out and can offer the best tips on how to forge a career in broadcasting.”

NFTS Director Jon Wardle commented: “Providing training to people across all parts of the UK is a top priority for the NFTS and we’re delighted to be working with 4Skills and Norfolk Screen to deliver a day of free invaluable industry insights and advice for those based in the east of England. Our partnership with Channel 4 is laser focused on the delivery of training in the nations and regions and we’re excited to have much more in store over the next three years.”

There will be three sessions on the day which is only open to people based in the east of England:

Session 1: How To Get A Job In TV

An expert panel which includes Sara Putt (MD of Sara Putt Associates and Deputy Chair of BAFTA), Hilary Bevan Jones (Producer and Founder of Endor Productions) and Jonathan Davenport (Executive Producer at October Studios), chaired by Judith Winnan, Head of NFTS Cymru Wales, will offer advice on the best places to look for jobs in the tv industry, how to submit an application, how to build a network and tips on interview technique.

Session 2: Writing For TV

Chaired by award-winning screenwriter and script consultant Hannah Robinson, who will discuss the key need to know things for anyone wanting to write for TV covering the basics as well as structure, character, plot and how to obtain feedback and how to best use it.

 

Session 3: Working in the Locations Team

Delivered by Jane Soans with guest speaker Andrew Hamilton, will be an everything you need to know session about the duties and role covered by a locations team and the skills required.

 

Each session will include an opportunity for people to put questions to the panels and experts offering advice.

Channel 4 and the NFTS recently agreed a new three-year partnership to provide practical training and development for the independent production sector across the Nations and Regions.
