Using both theory and practical work, the dynamic role the locations department plays in each production will be revealed in this course. By providing a guide to each stage of production, the aim is to give an understanding of how the locations team collaborates with each department on the production to ensure the success of any shoot.
The course is aimed at those interested in entering the diverse, intense and hugely rewarding world of the locations department. A mixture of those with experience including new entrants welcome. Tenacity, creativity and great people skills are vital!
Participants should bring their own camera or camera phone and laptop, as well as warm waterproof clothes for site visits.

- Locations research
- Time management
- Organising location recces
- The Unit Base
- Who gives permission to do what
- Site visits
- Location equipment; what’s needed and where to find it
- Negotiating fees
- Working with security
- Talks from industry professionals
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. An interest in working in the location department in film and TV is required.
