Are you a freelancer based in Northern Ireland working in the art department? Do you want to progress your career in HETV? The NFTS has partnered with ScreenSkills to provide training for art department runners, trainees and assistants who need to develop their practical skills and gain a better understanding of how to effectively support art directors and production designers. This will be an interactive, exercise-based course for a maximum of 10 participants.
Who It’s For:
Applicants must be freelancers based in Northern Ireland who have some art department experience, evidenced by an on-screen credit. This can be in HETV, unscripted, film or other type of production. You should be familiar with Photoshop and/or Illustrator. This course is not intended for professionals who may have a background in architecture.
What It Covers:
• Accuracy in drawing, drafting and labelling
• Colour theory and its use in visual storytelling
• How to accurately identify a wide range of colours.
• The correct use of styles and designs associated with specific historic periods and world cultures.
• Working with Photoshop and Illustrator – what tools to use when; speed vs polish
• Generative AI - awareness of its potential as a useful tool for working quickly.
• Responding to requests for references or mock-ups at short notice
About the Tutor:
Patrick Creighton is a Production Designer and Art Director with a decade of experience in the entertainment industry. His portfolio includes acclaimed TV series such as HBO’s Chernobyl, AMC’s Into the Badlands and BBC’s Line of Duty (series 6). His film credits include Nowhere Special, The School for Good and Evil and The Lovers. Patrick is based in Belfast.
