The NFTS has partnered with ScreenSkills to provide training for art department runners, trainees and assistants who need to develop their practical skills and gain a better understanding of how to effectively support art directors and production designers. This will be an interactive, exercise-based course for a maximum of 10 participants.

Who It’s For:
Applicants must be freelancers based in Northern Ireland who have some art department experience, evidenced by an on-screen credit. This can be in HETV, unscripted, film or other type of production. You should be familiar with  Photoshop and/or Illustrator. This course is not intended for professionals who may have a background in architecture.

What It Covers:
•    Accuracy in drawing, drafting and labelling
•    Colour theory and its use in visual storytelling
•    How to accurately identify a wide range of colours.
•    The correct use of styles and designs associated with specific historic periods and world cultures.
•    Working with Photoshop and Illustrator – what tools to use when; speed vs polish
•    Generative AI - awareness of its potential as a useful tool for working quickly.
•    Responding to requests for references or mock-ups at short notice
