Jonathan Ley is an editor and freelance filmmaker based in Central Scotland. After graduating in 2002 from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in Film & Television, Jonathan worked as an editor on several UK Film Council and Creative Scotland-commissioned short films.
In 2011, Jonathan became a full-time freelance filmmaker and over the subsequent thirteen years, he has created hundreds of films for a broad range of clients. This period of his career has provided Jonathan with invaluable experience in all aspects of production, from initial brief through to final delivery, and in recent years, has also seen him produce EPKs (Electronic Press Kits) for TV dramas including Guilt Series 1 (BBC Scotland), Karen Pirie (ITV) and The Nest (BBC One). This experience of filming behind the scenes footage and observing top directors at work has led Jonathan to conclude that he is not himself a director and that his primary skill in fact lies in structuring and honing the material gathered, in pursuit of the strongest story possible.
Jonathan is relishing the opportunity afforded by the NFTS Scotland Sean Connery Talent Lab to be a student of cinema once more and focus solely on his chosen discipline of editing.
