Mairead Hamilton is a Glasgow based writer-director with over a decade’s worth of experience in the industry having started as a runner on the set of BBC ALBA’s former flagship show, Bannan, back in 2013. The years that followed proved an invaluable training ground for Mairead, who steadily rose through the ranks throughout Bannan’s eight series span (2013 – 2021), ultimately making lead director and thereafter lead writer on the show. During this period, she also directed RTS award nominated kids short film, Rùn: Private Pet (2019).
Mairead aspires to create stories that possess an authentic sense of place and character; stories that are uniquely Scottish, that reflect the cultural richness of this nation, as well as its peculiarities and absurdities. Furthermore, she wants to create work that is not only proudly Scottish but proudly feminist, by placing messy, fierce and funny women centre stage.
