NFTS And Prime Video Team Up To Launch Unscripted Development Diploma

Building on their on-going successful collaboration, the National Film and Television School (NFTS) is once again teaming up with Prime Video to deliver a diploma in Unscripted Development as the UK continues to excel in the creation and production of unscripted television for global audiences, with hit formats such as The Traitors, First Dates, Clarkson’s Farm and The 1% Club sold around the world.

As the unscripted content landscape in UK television experiences significant transformation, the NFTS and Prime Video are actively responding to the evolving demands of the industry. To meet this new era of television, the NFTS has re-imagined its well established and highly successful Factual Development and Production Diploma, drawing from over a decade of expertise to create this new and innovative 12-month course.

To ensure that the re-booted course is accessible to as many people as possible, fees will be 75% underwritten by Prime Video, making it one of the most accessible diplomas ever provided by the School.

Kicking off from February 2024, the Unscripted Development Diploma is a part-time blended learning course which aims to capture the dynamism and creativity of unscripted television. The course is aimed at those with at least two years’ experience in TV or an associated creative industry (eg: gaming, advertising, marketing) and looking to transfer their skills or upskill. It will embrace all types of unscripted content but have a specific focus on formats which can travel the globe.

Learning from industry professionals, including channel commissioners and top producers from Prime Video, Sky, Netflix, BBC, ITV; and Channel 4 among others, the course plots the evolution of unscripted programmes from the initial idea to transmission, with students tasked with writing proposals, creating decks, producing sizzles and pitching to commissioners. The course will culminate in a real world pitch that sees students present their ideas for a new series to a commissioner from Amazon Studios.

NFTS Director Jon Wardle commented: "We are proud to continue our collaboration with Prime Video to launch the Unscripted Development Diploma. This innovative course is testament to our commitment to nurturing future talent and adapting to the ever-evolving landscape of unscripted for television. We are very much looking forward to equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in this space and to see them bring a slate of new ideas and formats to life. Thanks to Prime Video’s generous support, this diploma offers unprecedented accessibility at a time when the industry needs it most.”

Applications for the Unscripted Development Diploma are currently open with a closing date of midnight on 30th November 2023. For more info on how to apply and for eligibility criteria, go to; nfts.co.uk/unscripted-development
