The incoming board members were this week welcomed to the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield by Sophie Turner Laing, who joined as the School’s new Chair in September 2022, succeeding Patrick McKenna who stepped down in August after a nine year tenure.

The high profile appointments come at a key time for the School as it develops a new corporate plan to launch in summer 2023, focusing on the next five years and ensuring the NFTS retains its long-standing reputation as one of the world’s leading film schools.

The new Governors bolster the current NFTS Board, who are comprised of senior figures from film, television, games and higher education.

Sophie Turner Laing, Chair of the National Film and Television School commented: “It’s a real honour to welcome Charlotte, Miranda and Ollie as new board members. They bring an incredible wealth of experience, knowledge of the industry and a combined passion for supporting and discovering the next generation of film, television and games talent while increasing representation behind the camera. I very much look forward to working with them to achieve our ambition of taking the world class training the National Film and Television School provides to the next level.”

Jon Wardle, Director of the National Film and Television School said: “I’m thrilled to have Charlotte, Miranda and Ollie join the board at such a pivotal time for the School and the creative industries. The huge demand to provide highly trained talent and bridge skills gaps has never been more critical and their strong vision and instincts will enable us to turbo-charge the future of the School and all it offers.”

Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer said: “It’s an absolute privilege to be appointed to the Board of Governors. I’m a huge admirer of the NFTS and their commitment to diversity and excellence, discovering new voices from all backgrounds from across the UK. They are world leaders when it comes to developing creative talent - the School has produced some of the most gifted filmmakers in the business and provides a vital pipeline for the UK’s creative industries.  It’s such an exciting time in our industry and I really welcome this opportunity to work closely with the NFTS to discover and celebrate the next generation of emerging creators and filmmakers.”

Miranda Wayland, Head of International DEIA - Amazon Studios and Prime Video added: “I’m thrilled and incredibly proud to be on the Board of Governors for the NFTS. NFTS has an exceptional track record for excellence and developing some of the industry’s best creative talent and I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge and expertise to continue to help to drive greater inclusion for historically excluded under-represented groups.”

Ollie Madden, Director of Film4 said: “With the screen industries having doubled in size in the last five years and showing no signs of slowing, there has never been a more urgent need for what the NFTS excels at: producing the most gifted and highly skilled graduates from all backgrounds, across the UK.
