NFTS graduation film Skyborn makes Student Academy Award Shortlist

Skyborn is one of five films in the running for Best Foreign Film. 51 films were received from 29 countries and the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be announced in May.

Set in a smoggy post apocalyptic wasteland, the 27 minute film follows a stranded father and son who build a flying machine to pursue a better life above the clouds. Skyborn involves flying machines, miniatures, an elaborate set build, stunts, sand animation and a world of fog, in a production that demonstrates the NFTS’ full capabilities.

Scottish Director Jamie Stone said, “We are delighted to be in the running for the Best Foreign Film in the Student Academy Awards 2012! It is an incredible accolade, the Awards represent the best of the worlds new talent and it is an honour to make it to the final five.”

English Producer Len (Helen) Rowles said, "I think you can tell from the film that everybody gave their all to the production. SKYBORN is a heartwarming, human story and we are thrilled that it has connected with the Student Academy Award judges." Only two years ago, the NFTS came away with the award for The Confession directed by Tanel Toom, and that went on to receive a nomination at the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short Film.
