NFTS Makes History Again with Complete Sweep at CILECT Prize 2025
The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is immensely proud to announce a historic achievement at this year’s prestigious CILECT Prize awards. For only the second time in the competition’s 20-year history, NFTS student-made films have won first prize in all three categories: Fiction, Documentary, and Animation.
The NFTS first achieved this remarkable feat in 2013 and twelve years later, the School has repeated the clean sweep with the following films:
- Rock, Paper, Scissors (Fiction)
- Milk (Documentary)
- Adiós (Animation)
All three films have enjoyed huge success on the global festival circuit and were BAFTA nominated in 2025, with Rock, Paper, Scissors winning the award for British Short Film.
To win all three CILECT categories for the second time in our history is an incredible honour and reinforces the NFTS’s standing as one of the world’s leading film schools.
In 2013, the trio of winning films were equally notable: The Mass of Men (Fiction), After (Documentary), and Head Over Heels (Animation), the latter earning a rare student film Oscar nomination. That sweep marked the first time any school had ever won all three CILECT categories.
The CILECT Prize, voted on by film schools worldwide, is one of the most respected accolades in international film education and was first established in 2005.
NFTS Director Jon Wardle commented: “This extraordinary achievement is a testament to the talent, creativity and hard work of our students, as well as the dedication of our staff who nurture and support them. To win all three CILECT categories for the second time in our history is an incredible honour and reinforces the NFTS’s standing as one of the world’s leading film schools.”
This double triumph further cements the NFTS’s reputation as a global leader in developing the next generation of filmmakers. The CILECT Prize will be presented at the CILECT Congress 2025 in Mexico, from 27–31 October 2025.
Congratulations to all the filmmakers!
