TV BAFTA Awards 2023 Heralds Another Night of Wins for National Film and Television School Alumni!

On Sunday 14th May, BAFTA announced the winners of the BAFTA Television Awards 2023 and The National Film and Television School was once again proud to see so many talented graduates being recognised and awarded for their work! 

The biggest awards night in British television was hosted by comedic duo Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, and took place at the Royal Festival Hall in London. 

Bold drama Mood won in the Mini-Series category, meaning producer and NFTS graduate Lisa Walters scooped a coveted gold mask. Fellow graduates including Molly Manning Walker (DoP) and Alastair Reid (Editor) also worked on the series.

The unique and much loved Derry Girls won the Scripted Comedy BAFTA with Director and NFTS alumnus Michael Lennox hailed as a ‘genius’ on stage by Lisa McGee as she collected the award for the team which also included graduates Craig Devine (DoP) and Edward Coltman (Assistant Editor).

I Am Ruth, starring Kate Winslet and her daughter Mia Threapleton, won Single Drama. The Channel 4 female-led drama anthology series was written, directed and executive produced by NFTS graduate Dominic Savage.

National Film and Television School alumni also worked across other winning productions including...

Bad Sisters which took home the BAFTA for Drama Series had graduates including David Pimm (DoP), Tim Palmer (DoP), Vanessa Whyte (Additional Photography), Oonagh Kearney (Second Unit Director) and Sam Jenkins (Second Assistant Sound) all flying the NFTS flag.

The Real Mo Farah (Single Drama) had Stuart Thompson on Sound and Casualty, which has had NFTS graduates working on the show since 1998 had episodes written by Stephen McAteer.

The 2023 BAFTA Television Craft Award winners were announced last month and the School celebrated Composer Jessica Jones winning the Original Music: Factual award for her work on Jimmy Saville: A British Horror Story and Adele Fletcher for her work as Supervising Dialogue/ADR Editor on HBO’s House of the Dragon.
