Welcome to Channel 4 and the National Film and Television School (NFTS)’s booking page for an exciting day of free online sessions designed for people in the East of England but open to anyone to join. The sessions are aimed at those looking to start a career in television production and will give advice and information about a range of behind the camera roles. This event is in partnership with Norfolk Screen and there will be a particular focus on careers and opportunities in the East of England.
11.00-12.00 Writing for TV
This session is for anyone interested in writing for television, particularly those with little or no experience of screenwriting. It will be delivered by Hannah Robinson, an award-winning screenwriter and script consultant who is currently working on a tv script with Lenny Henry for Channel 4. Hannah will talk about the key elements that are essential to any screenplay - structure, character and plot - and will also talk about ways to develop and improve your writing.
13.00 - 14.15 How to Get a Job in Tv
If you’re looking for your first job in television, or you’re in the very early stages of your career, don’t miss this panel discussion with leading figures from the industry. There will be advice and insights on where to look for jobs, the skills and qualities you’ll need to apply, how to build your own network and tips on how to make yourself stand out. The panel will be Sara Putt (MD of Sara Putt Associates and Deputy Chair of BAFTA), Jonathan Davenport (Executive Producer at October Studios) and Hilary Bevan Jones (Producer and Founder of Endor Productions).
15.00 – 16.30 Working in the Locations Team
The Locations Team is central to any scripted production and works closely with directors, producers, cinematographers, assistant directors and designers to ensure a successful location shoot. In this session, you’ll learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the team from Location Manager Jane Soans who has many years’ experience working in tv and film. Jane will also be in conversation with Andrew Hamilton, a Location Manager who regularly works in the Norfolk area.
