This is a one-week course in single camera drama direction, intended for participants who have some experience in another role in film or TV and want to learn about directing.
The course will cover the nature of dramatic text, script analysis, casting, how to work with actors, how to prepare for rehearsal and shooting, how to direct actors and crew on set.
Participants will have opportunities to work with professional actors and will each direct a scene in a propped classroom environment that will be professionally shot and edited. Feedback will come from the course tutor, fellow students and the actors you work with.
Course Tutor David Tucker is a very experienced director of film and television drama whose work has been nominated for BAFTA, RTS and Emmy awards. He has worked with a wide range of actors from Judi Dench, Christoph Waltz, Michael Gambon, John Thaw, Robson Green, Niamh Cusack through to complete beginners. Most recently he has directed the opening and finale episodes of the current series of CALL THE MIDWIFE
- The nature of dramatic text and script analysis
- What actors need from directors and how to give good and playable direction
- How to prepare for rehearsal and shooting: pre-visualisation, camera-planning and shot-listing

All participants will gain practical experience of directing professional actors in rehearsal room exercises and their own 2-handed scene which will be shot in a propped classroom environment, edited and reviewed.
