Are you based in Wales? Do you have some experience as a Researcher, Script Reader, Assistant Script Editor or similar? Do you want to progress your career in HETV? The NFTS has partnered with ScreenSkills to provide training for those who want an understanding of the tools and skills that are needed to be an effective script editor in HETV within both a development and production team. This will be an interactive, exercise-based course for a maximum of 20 participants.
Who It’s For:
Applicants must be based in Wales who have some experience as a Researcher, Script Reader, Assistant Script Editor or Trainee Script Editor. This experience can be within HETV, film or any other type of production.
What It Covers:
The course will mainly be led by Maria Odufuye with some brilliant guest speakers. The course will include:
• Who you will work with in a production and development team
• The relationship between a Script Editor and a Writer.
• What makes a good script.
• Collating written notes for a writer
• Practical full day session using Final Draft
• Working as a Creative Freelancer
• CV Workshop and next steps
Course Structure:
This training is for up to 20 participants. The group will be split into 2 for the in-person weeks to ensure a more efficient and effective training experience. The online sessions will be for the whole group.
• Wed 13th Nov – 1 x online session in the evening (for all)
• 18 - 22 Nov – 1 week in person in Cardiff/ Cohort 1 (half the group)
• 25 -29 Nov – 1 week in person in Cardiff / Cohort 2 (half the group)
• Tues 3rd Dec – 2 x online session in the evening (for all)
• Thurs 5th Dec – 2 x online session in the evening (for all)
About the Tutor:
Maria Odufuye is a Script Editor & Script Consultant, who has credits including: Playing Nice; A Town Called Malice 2; Your Christmas or Mine 2; Sex Education S4, EastEnders and more recently the new Sky show IRIS by Neil Cross.
Maria has also been a Development Assistant at Clerkenwell Films where she worked on The End of the F***ing World 2, BBC TV Drama Writers Programme & BBC Drama Academy. Other script editing and reading experience includes Small Town Boy for Danu Media, C4 New TV Drama Writers scheme, Screen Ireland’s Spotlight scheme, Greenlight Screenwriting Lab, BBC Studios, Talawa Theatre, SevenBlackWomen and The Alfred Fagon Awards. She was also a Script Editor on the 4Screenwriting 2023 course and an Assistant Script Editor & Reader in previous years.
As a Script Consultant, Maria founded the consultancy SCRIPT-ED by Maria Odufuye, where she hosts ‘Intro to Script Editing’ workshops, facilitates sessions with industry professionals and provides support, advice and training sessions on topics such as Final Draft.
