Access NFTS: Summer Sessions are back again for 2024 but look a little different!
After an incredible programme in 2023 we are back, with a few changes, for our Summer Sessions 2024 programme!
This time around we are running workshops between the 1st and 30th of August. Each week we will have different sessions all run by NFTS students. Each session will focus on a different career area, behind the camera, across the Film, TV and Games industry. Attendees will find out about the different roles, skills and responsibilities and take part in fun activities.

Workshop Details
Career Focus: Directing Fiction
Dates: 01 AugustWhat does it mean to direct a film? From directing actors to preparing a shoot, this interactive workshop explores the craft of film direction, and allows students to explore and develop their own creative and communication skill
Career Focus: Directing Documentary
Dates: 07 AugustCalling all emerging documentary filmmakers! This workshop encourages you to look more closely at the world around you, and discover that everyone (and everything!) has a story. Our incredible documentary students will help you find the story you want to tell, but help you tell it through film.
Career Focus: Directing Animation
Dates: 9 AugustStop motion animation is one of the most effective animation techniques used in film and TV favourites such as Wallace & Gromit, Morph, Pingu and Shaun the Sheep. In this workshop, students will learn how to make their own stop motion animation step by step, frame by frame.
Career Focus: Production Design
Dates: 13 AugustProduction designers create the world our films live in. They design spaces which encompass the themes and characters of the film, and which are safe and practical. Starting with a blank slate, students will use props to design a space and see how it transforms a script and its characters
Career Focus: Screenwriting
Dates: 15 AugustIf the core of film is emotion, then character is how you access it. Whether you are creating characters from scratch, or seeking them out, our characters have qualities we share or can recognise. In this workshop, students will learn how to develop their own character and bring them to life!
Career Focus: Directing Science and Natural History
Dates: 22 AugustMacro-cinematography invites us into a whole new miniature world - one that exists right under our noses. In this workshop, students not only explore the macro world but learn how to build sequences in natural history film.
Career Focus: Production Management
Dates: 28 AugustWhether you're making a blockbuster, a mid budget or an independent film, working out all the crew's requirements and ensuring everything comes together is a worthy skill to have! Learn how the production managers do it, and how to make the most out of a budget.
Career Focus: Assistant Directing
Dates: 30 AugustWith every Spielberg, Scorsese or Coppola is an assistant director by their side calling the shots and making sure every shoot goes off without a hitch. Learn how the assistant directors do it, from calling "Action!" to wrangling the crowds, and all the moments in-between.

Dates: 07 AugustStep into the shoes of a film producer and discover the magic that happens behind the scenes! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the ins and outs of producing, from developing a movie idea to navigating real-world challenges. Work in teams to pitch your film concepts, create budgets, and solve production problems just like the pros.

Dates: 22 AugustMuch like putting together an amazing playlist, film programming is all about understanding the themes, the vibes, and the audience of a film, to consider how best to present it. Curation is about the experience, the culture. Devising your own festival programme, students in this workshop will look at what influences the way film is received, and how audiences engage with them.
Career Focus: Visual Effects
Dates: 28 AugustStep behind the scenes and discover the secrets of visual effects in our hands-on VFX workshop. Learn the fundamentals of digital effects, from green screen techniques to 3D modelling, and create your own movie magic. Join us for an exciting journey into the world of visual storytelling, where your imagination is the only limit!
Career Focus: Sound
Dates: 30 AugustExplore the techniques behind creating captivating audio landscapes, from recording and manipulating sound effects to mixing and mastering. Whether you're interested in film, video games, or music production, this workshop will equip you with the skills to bring your sonic visions to life.

For the first time we are offering virtual alternatives as part of our Summer Sessions. We will be running 4 live online sessions across August.

Priority will be given to those who meet one or more or our widening participation criteria. This is to ensure we meet our aim to help increase diversity and inclusion within the creative industry. Our criteria is broad, and represents those who are currently underrepresented in the creative workforce in the UK
