Originally from the Isle of Skye, Fiann studied for a BA in Film at Screen Academy Scotland in Edinburgh, specialising in cinematography. He's since built his skills in the camera and lighting departments on HETV and features—such as Outlander, The Buccaneers, Good Omens, Karen Pirie, Vigil and Falling Into Place.
His upbringing has resulted in deep connections to both the culture and landscape of the Scottish west-coast. As a native Gàidhlig speaker, Fiann is passionate about strong characters and stories from all cultures, especially those under-represented on screen. Besides cinematography, Fiann has directed the sketch show OMC! as well as the comedy series Glan Fhèin for BBC Alba—which is Celtic Media Festival nominated and in development for a second series.
Through his cinematography, he explores themes of otherness, isolation and communit, and often experiments with different media. His graduation film ‘The Campsie Fells’ was selected for Oscar qualifying ‘In The Palace’ film festival and won the grand prix at the ‘Golden Beggar’ international film festival. Other collaborations include working with writer/director Frances Anne Solomon, and his latest short is ‘Code Of Conduct’, directed by Jagoda Tłok. His work aims to explore the emotion of movement and colours whilst keeping story at the heart of every frame.
