Maxwell Cutting is a Cinematographer from Edinburgh, Scotland. After falling in love with filmmaking through in his youth through stop-motion animation, he pivoted from studying engineering into Film Studies at the University of St Andrews where he achieved a 1st Class degree. Here, Maxwell discovered his passion for cinematography through creating films for DON’T WALK, the UK’s largest student run charity fashion show and soaking up experience on set as a runner and PA on shorts and commercials.
After the pandemic, Max enrolled in an MA in Filmmaking at the London Film School; Shooting 7 shorts throughout his time on the course in the UK and internationally and working in support roles on countless more. His work has had success at BIFA and BAFTA qualifying festivals across the UK and abroad, including a win at Aesthetica.
Despite success in London, Maxwell knew that he wanted to contribute to Scotland’s growing national cinema; and has thrown himself into finding collaborators and stories which explore new perspectives on Scottish identity. He is thrilled to take part in the Sean Connery Talent Lab, and hopes that it is the start of a meaningful contribution to Scottish Cinema.
