Paloma Baeza started directing films while working on the other side of the camera. She directed live action shorts by collaborating with actors such as Cillian Murphy, Mark Strong and Ian McDiarmid, eventually taking part in Channel 4’s Coming Up half hour drama strand.
She has written and co-developed a number of longer form projects such as her full-length screenplay, Passports, which was selected for The Brit List.
Her interest in animation finally led her to study at the NFTS, where her stop-motion graduation film Poles Apart won multiple awards including the EFF Maclaren Award, an ANNIE award, and the 2018 BAFTA for Best British Animated Short Film.
She has since developed a hybrid feature film, The Toymaker’s Secret, written by Alex Garland, with Sony Tristar and DNA films, and is currently developing an animated adult feature film about the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo with Lupus Films. Her recent stop-motion film was part of the adult dark comedy anthology, The House, for Netflix, which won the Jury Award at Annecy International Animation Festival, and was nominated for a TV BAFTA in the Single Drama category.
Paloma recently completed the hand-drawn short film, Three Hares, produced by Archer Gray and Lupus Films, narrated by Jessie
