Production Title: Lacuna
Sophie Black is a BAFTA-longlisted filmmaker from the East Midlands. She specialises in magical realism and frequently uses her films’ cinematography & production design choices to explore the hidden depths of her characters’ thoughts, fears, and desires.
Her previous directorial credits include the BFI Network-funded A Different Place (festival selections included VIFF, BFI Flare, Norwich, Flatpack, and many others), and Night Owls which premiered at LSFF. She was the director’s shadow on Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale for AMC Studios and Sundance Now, and series two of BBC’s Boarders.
Sophie’s additional writer credits include Hidden (which was accepted into the OSCAR-qualifying Seattle International Film Festival), and The Barn, which was a finalist for Best Unproduced Short Screenplay at FilmQuest.
She is a member of BAFTA Connect, Cinesisters and Directors UK, and is currently in early development on two features including her directorial debut, Night Owls & Early Birds.
