Zoë is an award-winning writer and filmmaker based in Glasgow. As a playwright, her work includes Shō & the Demons Of The Deep (IAP in association with the National Theatre of Scotland), Night Idiot (PPP, co-presented with the Traverse and Aberdeen Arts) and Gracie and the Start of the End of the World (Again) (Assembly ART Award winner, Scottish Theatre Bright Spark Award winner, BBC/Popcorn Award nominee, currently in development as an animated series). In other work, she’s been commissioned by companies including Hopscotch Theatre, Visible Fictions and Imaginate, longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, supported by Playwrights’ Studio Scotland, and critically described as “ingenious” (The Scotsman) and “original, deliciously surreal” (The Stage).
As a screenwriter, Zoë’s work is genre-led, tragi-comic and thematically wide-ranging. She is an alumna of Glasgow Caledonian’s MA in TV Writing, BBC Scottish Voices, and Animatic @ Glasgow Film Festival. In 2023 her BFI Network/Screen Scotland-commissioned short film The Air We Breathe won Grand Prize in The Script Lab’s Free Screenplay Contest from over 11,700 international entries. Her debut short as a writer-director, Sunlight Water, was recently supported by the Opening Shot: Final Checks fund and is currently on the festival circuit.
