Kickstart Your Filmmaking Journey with the NFTS Academy and Disney: A Free and Unmissable Opportunity for Aspiring Young Filmmakers!

Are you a passionate filmmaker between 16 and 19 years old, eager to kickstart an exciting career in the film industry? The National Film and Television School (NFTS) are on the hunt for fresh young talent to join our upcoming NFTS Academy residential course. This is your chance to step into a key role behind the scenes in a film project that you help create!

We’re selecting 54 of the UK’s most promising young filmmakers for this incredible opportunity. You'll collaborate with top industry professionals to make short films, dive into hands-on masterclasses with leading filmmakers, and specialise in a specific craft like directing, sound or screenwriting as well as making valuable new friends and connections.

Thanks to the generous support of Disney there are no fees to participate in this residential. Places are entirely free for successful applicants; you’ll only need to cover the cost of travel to and from the NFTS Academy, based at the National Film and Television School’s HQ in Beaconsfield.

Sound interesting? Here’s more info on what to expect:

  • Kick-off Weekend: All specialisms start with an online weekend of activities on 8 and 9 March 2025.
  • Main Residential: From Sunday 6 April to Wednesday 16 April 2025, you’ll be immersed in your craft at the NFTS, staying at the nearby Moor Hall Hotel in Cookham, Berkshire. As part of this experience, you’ll also get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Pinewood Studios, the legendary home of global blockbusters like Star Wars: Andor, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Deadpool & Wolverine. Walk the same sets where iconic scenes were filmed and get inspired by the magic of filmmaking at one of the world's most famous studios.
  • Screenwriting Extra: If you choose to specialise in screenwriting, there’s more! You’ll start with a dedicated weekend on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December 2024 to write the scripts for the short films. After that, you’ll join the other course elements as outlined above.
