NFTS and Prime Video Launch Free UK-Wide Training Initiative for Freelancers
Prime Video has announced a further £2.2 million investment in UK film and television training, expanding its successful Prime Video Pathway (Amazon) programme with two major new initiatives developed in partnership with the National Film and Television School (NFTS).
The new TV Freelancers Reskill and Upskill Programme, delivered by the NFTS, will provide vital free training and support to creative freelancers across the UK at a time of significant challenges within the creative industries.
The initiative includes:
- Over 60 one-day online courses, reaching up to 1,000 freelancers nationwide, helping participants reskill and upskill in key emerging areas such as digital production, podcasting, social media, AI, virtual production and project management.
- A three-month in-person programme offering tailored support for 100 freelancers who have been out of work for more than four months, enabling them to rebuild confidence, develop new skills and reconnect with industry networks.
Applications for both programmes are now open via the NFTS website.
Jon Wardle, Director of the National Film and Television School (NFTS) said:
“Freelancers across the creative industries are continuing to navigate significant challenges, and this expanded commitment from Prime Video will offer timely and much-needed support. By combining the free accessible online training delivered by the NFTS, with intensive in-person guidance, the freelance workforce will be able to expand their skills, regain momentum and lay the foundations for sustainable long-term careers.”
Siena Pakington, UK Country Manager, Prime Video, added:
“Amazon is proud to play its part with a comprehensive free training and development programme to support a freelance community we know is struggling. We're continuing to help upskill and reskill an industry facing unprecedented change while remaining trailblazers in apprenticeships that diversify our industry with proven opportunities for new entrants.”
The NFTS continues to collaborate closely with Prime Video on several talent development initiatives, including:
- NFTS Production Coordinator Apprenticeships in the North and London
- Prime Video Directors Workshop
- Unscripted Development Diploma
- NFTS Scotland’s Sean Connery Talent Lab
Since its launch in 2022, the Prime Video Pathway (Amazon) has provided training for hundreds of UK creatives, with the NFTS proud to play a central role in delivering high-quality, accessible training to support the next generation of television and film talent.
Both freelancer programmes are now open for applications. Interested professionals can access application information via the NFTS website. The programmes require a minimum of three professional credits for the short courses and minimum of three years in the industry for the three-month face to face courses, and are open to all freelancers regardless of genre, department, grade, and geography.
