NFTS Celebrates Third Consecutive Win at the Jackson Wild Media Awards, the ‘Green Oscars’ of Natural History Filmmaking
Considered the pinnacle of achievement in natural history filmmaking (aka the ‘Green Oscars’), the Jackson Wild Media Awards honour excellence and innovation in nature, science, and conservation storytelling.
In a record-breaking year with over 500 film entries and more than 200 international judges screening 1,000+ hours of content, competition was fierce. The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is thrilled to announce that its Science and Natural History film Orchids: Darwin’s Conundrum has won the Student Category, marking the third consecutive year an NFTS Science and Natural History film has earned this prestigious accolade.
The winners were revealed on 2nd October 2025, in Jackson, Wyoming. This remarkable hat-trick underscores the consistent world-class storytelling and cinematic excellence emerging from the NFTS Directing and Producing Science and Natural History MFA.
In Orchids: Darwin’s Conundrum, biologist and filmmaker Thomas Cassar who graduated from the NFTS in March 2025, embarks on a journey across continents to unravel the dark secrets of orchid pollination, a mystery that even Charles Darwin struggled to solve. But beware: not everything is as it seems…
Head of NFTS Directing and Producing Science and Natural History, Peter Leonard commented:
“This film truly represents the best of natural history filmmaking at the NFTS, and we couldn’t be prouder of this third consecutive win. It’s a fantastic testament to the talent, creativity and scientific curiosity of our students, and to the world-class training and mentorship they receive while on the course. Huge congratulations to Thomas and the whole team.”
