New Funding Available To Train Future Sports And Live Events Producers!

3 August 2022: The National Film & Television School (NFTS) and IMG, one of the leading independent producers of sports programming in the world, are pleased to announce a new funding opportunity for future sports producers to gain industry-standard training at one of the world's best film schools.

Sports Producers are responsible for ensuring every aspect of sports coverage for live broadcasts, or recorded sports stories are delivered in an entertaining and memorable way. It’s an incredibly exciting and varied career path that includes:

  • Meeting and interviewing athletes and sports personalities
  • Creating features and highlights
  • Co-ordinating coverage of sports events

Applications are now open for this unique scholarship opportunity, with the first recipient joining the NFTS Sports Production Diploma in January 2023. The cost of the one-year course will be fully funded by IMG and some living expenses may also be covered.

Scholarship recipients will be equipped with the skills required to produce state-of-the-art sports and live events coverage, highlights content and more. The course packs in a huge amount of practical learning including:

  • Sports programming landscape in the UK and worldwide
  • Filming, editing and scripting sports features
  • Developing, pitching and responding to Requests for Information and Proposal (RFI/RFPs)
  • Working in teams
  • Budgeting for sports productions
  • Specialist workshops and exercises
  • Introduction to live event coverage

The next cohort will start in January 2023 and will be led by course leader Tom Lewis who has more than 30 years experience in sports television including working at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

IMG will select the applicant who will be from under-represented groups including those with disabilities, those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and people of colour.
