Directing Scripted Television is aimed at people who may already have some directing experience (this can be from any setting including short films, TV or theatre for example) and want to further develop their skills, knowledge and confidence. Whether your goal is to expand and enhance your existing skills or to make the transition from short films, documentaries, commercials, indie features or studio directing, this course will allow you to explore the essential craft, technical and professional aspects of the role.
You will be taught by working scripted director Sarmad (Sam) Masud and will learn the theory and practical craft of this challenging, but rewarding role.
The course will include:
- Analysis of a range of clips to examine the techniques used
- Practical application of the theory and craft of a scripted director
- How the drama director plans and prepares for a shoot
- The opportunity to work with professional actors
- The use of industry standard camera and monitoring equipment for a real time experience
- The opportunity to hear from actors about their techniques and how they work with the director
- A range of opportunities to direct scenes and professional actors
- A safe and inclusive space to allow you to ask questions and learn through theory and practical activity
There are no entry requirements for this course. Some experience of directing is helpful, but not essential!
A passion for directing and filmmaking in general is certainly required!
