About the Summer Sessions
We are excited to announce the return of our popular Access NFTS Summer Sessions for 2026!
These FREE hands on sessions are open to young people aged 11–16 and will run throughout August at our Beaconsfield campus. Each week, participants can choose from at least four different 2 hour workshops, each exploring a unique career pathway in the Film, TV and Games industries.
Glass Hack: 2D Multiplane Animation
Bring your drawings to life using the ultimate old-school Hollywood special effect. Long before computer graphics, Disney used layers of physical glass to create massive depth in movies like Bambi. In this hands-on workshop, you will step away from screens to build and shoot your own physical, moving animation using glass, paint, and paper.
Step 1: Draw Your World
Sketch and colour your main background scene on paper. This will serve as the canvas and foundation for your entire animated world.
Step 2: Layer Up the Glass
Place a clear sheet of glass directly over your drawing. This introduces a physical 3D layer, separating your static background from your moving characters.
Step 3: Paint & Animate
Use paint, paper cutouts, and found objects directly on the glass surface. You will move, tweak, and slide these materials frame-by-frame to create mesmerizing, tactile motion.
No animation software required. Just pure, hands-on illusion.
