He was formerly chief critic at the Independent on Sunday and is programme advisor on French cinema for the BFI London Film Festival.
He is the author of Atom Egoyan (BFI) and Short Orders (Serpents Tail), and co-editor of Celluloid Jukebox: Popular Music and the Movies Since the 1950s (BFI).
