This workshop will show you how to use H16 Bolex clockwork 16mm cameras, as well as strategies for shooting film in ecologically and economically friendly ways.
Artists James Holcombe and Rob Szeliga will deliver this workshop building on their experiences of working with 16mm film. The workshop will be contextualised by screening examples of work made by artists and filmmakers utilising ecological friendly modes of production in their work, and will provide useful tips and resources for moving towards an ecological filmmaking practice. We will shoot together as a group, returning to NFTS on the second day to hand process footage using caffinol and other eco formulated developers such as tea and rosemary. Finished films will be projected as negatives, then telecined at 2k quality and made available to participants post the workshop.
We will cover how:
The Bolex H16 camera is loaded and operated
To experiment with the camera - different shooting speeds, single frame, double exposures and long exposures
To use c-mount lenses
To light meter using mobile phones
To load and use cine film processing tanks
