Refresh, Review and Advance your self-shooting skills and confidence. This course is aimed at those who have some self shooting experience, but may not have picked up or used a camera for a while.
With a mix of theory and practical exercises, the course provides an opportunity to refresh your skills and rediscover your confidence using industry standard cameras. Over the two days of the course, you will cover a range of topics to help you develop your skills and refresh your knowledge.
Many of the skills learnt on this course can be applied to any camera or shooting format, meaning this course will be of benefit to you regardless of which camera/s you have access to.
This course will cover:
- Camera menu, set up
- Tripod and handheld operating
- Composition
- Exposure control and white balance techniques
- Focus control including depth of field
- Recording sound
- Controlled/Uncontrollable action
- Management of CF cards and media
- Using a variety of lenses
- Working hand held on docs.
- Audio tips for the self shooter
- Introduction to creating usable ’sequences’
- Lighting tips and tricks
Through a series of practical exercises, you will refresh your skills and relearn how to frame and operate the camera both handheld and on the tripod, record good quality sound and shoot sequences. You will review exercises with the tutor and will be given individual feedback.
About the tutor
Verdy Oliver has had a camera on his shoulder for 20 years. 3 x Olympics, 7 x Tour De France’s, 4 x Champions League Finals, 2 x Active War Zones, 5 x Super Bowls, 1 x World Cup and countless documentaries. As he continues to shoot a range of content, Verdy has also diversified his talents and entered the world of post production and he now runs a Sticks & Glass, a fresh new post production facility based in central Leeds.
