NFTS and Amazon MGM Studios Widen Access to AI Training for the Screen Industries
Amazon MGM Studios have partnered with the National Film and Television School (NFTS) to widen access to participation for the Certificate in AI for Film & TV: Tools, Protocols & Practices, helping more professionals develop the skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving use of AI across the screen industries. Through this initiative, Amazon MGM Studios will subsidise course fees by 60% for 20 participants and provide five fully funded places for eligible students, significantly reducing financial barriers to specialist AI training.
Now in its second year, the six-month programme explores how Artificial Intelligence can responsibly enhance and streamline creative practice across film and television, giving participants the knowledge to understand when where and how AI can be used across production.
Delivered part-time, via Zoom on Monday evenings between October 2026 and March 2027, the programme is open to all across the UK, concluding with an in-person showcase in central London, where participants will present the findings of their final research project.
Participants will gain:
- A clear understanding of the legal and ethical dimensions of AI in media
- Proficiency with a range of current AI tools relevant to film and television
- The confidence to incorporate AI responsibly into creative and production workflows
- A professionally relevant and critically informed project demonstrating the application of AI in practice
By reducing financial barriers to specialist training, the funding provided by Amazon MGM Studios will help ensure that talented individuals from all backgrounds and from every part of the UK can access the skills, networks and opportunities needed to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven screen industry.
The initiative builds on the NFTS’s longstanding relationship with Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, reflecting a shared commitment to preparing the UK’s creative workforce for the future while widening access to emerging technologies and careers. It recently announced 10 new fully funded scholarships at the NFTS, designed to support the next generation of creative technologists.
