NFTS Graduate Credits Dominate Categories In 2024 BIFA Nominations

The 2024 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) nominations have been announced and the National Film and Television School (NFTS) is thrilled to see its graduates shining across multiple categories, including Best Director, Best Original Music, Best Debut Screenwriter and Best Effects.

NFTS alumni contributed to all the films in the Best British Independent Film category. Highlights include Love Lies Bleeding by writer/director Rose Glass and writer Weronika Tofilska, and Cannes-nominated Santosh by writer/director Sandhya Suri. Both films are up for Best Screenplay, with Rose also nominated for Best Director and Sandhya for Best Debut Screenwriter.

 

BIFA 2024

 

In the Best British Short category, three NFTS graduate made films were nominated - A Move (directed by Elahe Esmaili), Delivery (produced by Joe Binks), and Wander to Wonder (written and directed by Nina Gantz and written by Simon Cartwright).

Notable NFTS alumni also featured include James Bowsher (Santosh) and Jacob Swan Hyam (Bring Them Down), both nominated for Pinewood’s Breakthrough Producer award, and Chiara Ventura's Witches, competing for Best Feature Documentary.

Additional nominations went to La Chimera (Best International Independent Film, produced by Carlo Cresto-Dina), NFTS Head of Composing Stuart Earl (Best Original Music for Unicorns), and graduates Louise Burton and Paul Davies for Best Sound on Kneecap and Love Lies Bleeding, respectively. David Simpson also earned a Best Effects nomination for his visual effects work on Civil War.
