Two-day intensive training to equip you how to work, collaborate and communicate effectively with actors.
The Craft of Directing Actors is an intensive two-day training course designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to work effectively with actors in film directing.
Over the course of two days, you will learn how to communicate with actors, build trust, create compelling characters, and guide performances to achieve your artistic vision. Through a combination of lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, you will gain practical experience in directing actors and receive feedback from experienced professionals.
Tutored by Joseph A. Adesunloye an award winning British-Nigerian screenwriter & director with three feature films under his belt. A nominee for the BFI IWC Schaffhausen Award in 2016, he was also longlisted for a BIFA in 2017. Joseph guest lectures at the University of the Arts London and for the NYU Tisch School of the Arts at the NFTS. Joseph currently has several TV projects in development. He is a member of BAFTA and Directors UK and has been a trustee at the Film and TV Charity since 2019.
Here is an overview of what you can expect to learn:
Day One:
Introduction to the Actor-Director Relationship: Understanding the importance of trust and collaboration in working with actors.
Script Analysis and Character Development: Learn how to analyze scripts and develop characters that are authentic and compelling.
Directing the Performance: Learn how to give clear and effective directions to actors, using techniques such as motivation, emotion, and subtext.
Rehearsals: Learn how to conduct effective rehearsals to develop character arcs, improve blocking, and refine performances.
Day Two:
On-Set Collaboration: How to work with actors on set, manage time constraints, and adapt to unexpected situations.
Hands On Directing Exercise: Put your skills to the test by directing a short scene with professional actors, receiving feedback and guidance from experienced industry professionals.
Feedback and Reflection: Receive feedback on your directing skills and reflect on your progress throughout the course.
By the end of this two-day intensive training, you will have gained valuable insights into the art of directing actors and the skills necessary to build effective working relationships with actors. You will be equipped with the tools and techniques needed to effectively communicate your vision and guide performances to achieve your artistic goals.
