Sustainability in production is now a core skillset for anyone working in film, TV, advertising, or content creation. This introductory session explores how sustainable practices can be embedded into real‑world workflows without overwhelm, jargon, or box‑ticking. The session emphasises that sustainability is a shared responsibility: every role has influence, and every department contributes to overall impact.
Carly Stone is an Executive Sustainability Producer with a 25‑year background delivering work for global brands and studios across commercial production, film, TV, branded content, stills, and live installations. A former co‑founder of Madam Films, a female‑led production service company, she launched Planet Positive Production in 2025 to help agencies, brands, and production teams embed sustainable practices through training, consultancy, and hands‑on shoot guidance. Carly is an established voice within the advertising industry, contributing to sector initiatives, advising industry groups, and supporting the development of best‑practice frameworks. Her approach is grounded in real‑world production leadership and a commitment to making sustainability practical, collaborative, and achievable across all forms of filmmaking and content production.
This session breaks down the fundamentals of Sustainable Development, focusing on the three pillars — Planet, People, and Profit — and how they apply to everyday decisions. Through practical examples and lived production experience, we’ll explore what typically goes right and wrong on shoots, how to navigate variables, and how small habit shifts can create long‑lasting change across any scale of production.
You’ll explore:
- The three pillars of Sustainable Development — what they mean in a production context
- Mindset and culture — how habits, behaviours, and team dynamics shape outcomes
- Practical principles — achievable steps for integrating sustainability into any role
- Real‑world scenarios — common challenges, on‑set variables, and how to navigate them
Long‑term thinking — building processes that support resilience, efficiency, and impact
This session is open to anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of sustainable production and bring better practices into their role, team, or organisation.
