The BBC are teaming up with top UK media organisations to deliver a varied schedule of amazing free events for people who work in, or want to work in, the creative industries.

Join NFTS Leeds on Wednesday 21st - Thursday 22nd February at The Mockingbird Cinema, Birmingham (B9 4AA) for free events as part of Production Unlocked.

Wednesday 21st February

2:15pm - 3:15pm - Want to Work in the Art Department? | Book your place

Art Director Matthew Hope (Lady Chatterley’s Lover; The Syndicate) will share advice on how to pursue a career in this busy and exciting department. He will be joined by Art Dept. trainees Dawn Clarke and Tegan Simmonds, who worked closely with Matt on Dance School (tx2024).

Thursday 22nd February

10:30am – 11:30am - Locations: First on / Last Off |  Book your place

What is the role of Location Manager? Their work has a huge impact on the story, they find in the real world, the imagined rooms, houses and streets that are on the writer’s page. This is only part of the role, find out from Location Manager Idris Ahmed and Assistant Location Manager Helen Liddle about a week in the life of the locations dept. – covering everything from scouting locations to negotiating facilities to being first and last on a location. The session is hosted by Hannah Robinson (Script Consultant) and will include a case study of Three Little Birds, which was filmed all across the Midlands.

1:00pm - 2:00pm - A Masterclass with Adil Ray | Book your place

Writer, producer, actor and presenter Adil Ray, joins us to talk about how to tell your story and why it is important. How do you take a local character and give them global appeal. How do you engage with the commissioners to bring them on board with your story. With a case study of Citizen Khan, this session gives the audience the chance to ask Adil about creating a character and his processes in taking it from script to screen.
