Lighting for film and television is a real skill. It can mean the difference between shooting an average shot and a beautiful shot, capturing a mood, time period, action scene or historic event.
During this intensive 2 day course, delivered in partnership with Leeds Trinity University, you will learn how to rig a range of film and television lights, understand the various power requirements for on set and location lighting and gain an understanding of how to set up lights to capture a range of scenarios.
This course will be delivered by experienced Gaffer, Terry Maskell. Terry has been a lighting gaffer for a number of years and has worked on a huge variety of film and television productions.
Who is this course for?:
This course is aimed at anyone with a passion for and interest in film and television lighting. You may have never worked with lighting before, or you may be keen to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of lighting techniques. The course includes a range of practical activities and theoretical learning to allow each participant to build on and develop their knowledge.
This course will be taught in partnership with and at the Leeds Trinity University campus, Horsforth, Leeds.
On this course you will cover the following and more:
- How to use a variety of film and television lights and rigging equipment
- An overview of the various power sources and how to use these safely
- What various lights are used for
- A range of lighting set ups, both interior and exterior
- Lighting for interviews
- Lighting a studio/set
- How to work effectively with a DoP (Director of Photography) to realise their vision
- Set protocol and etiquette
A passion for lighting for fim and television is essential, but there is no requirement for you to have any prior experience in this area.
