This course provides experienced Self-Shooters with the chance to make a broadcast quality short arts documentary - from initial brief, to shoot and through to its post-production working with an editor.
Participants will be hands on throughout and contribute to a new online digital arts strand 240 Seconds. It will also give them their own film to use and distribute after the course - giving them something unique for their showreel!
240 Seconds is a new digital arts strand showcasing the creativity of some of Scotland's best artists, exploring their creativity, inspiration and art.
Participants in the course will be briefed on the aesthetic and production of the new strand, be supported to shoot the best rushes they can and then see their work through an off-line edit working with two experienced Avid editors - Thérèse Lynch and Tim Young.
Thérèse and Tim will also mentor participants to consider how their footage will best be used in the cutting room before they go out and press record.
Introduction, strand briefing and gear familiarisation will be at Progressive Broadcast in Glasgow, shoots will be in and around the city and the edits will be at the BBC in PQ.
The course is the brainchild of NFTS Scotland and George Cathro, a veteran music and arts producer, series producer and executive producer with a strong track record for delivering high quality broadcast arts programming filmed all over the world.

Mon 18th Nov – Group A edits
Tues 19th Nov – Group B edits

The course is aimed at PDs and experienced shooting AP's who have shot on Sony FX6 cameras (or similar), have used prime lenses (or want to) and have recorded broadcast quality sound.
Anyone tasked with capturing Unscripted TV or documentary footage for delivery to an edit
As the course focuses on shooting specifically for the edit, it is expected that applicants will be comfortable with gathering decent quality image and sound as a self-shooter already.
Applicants who are not already competent with the basics of self-shooting may be interested in taking our Introduction to Self-Shooting course or Advanced Self-Shooting course first.

Bursaries places with 70% discount are available (remaining cost £345).
